iPad version of Skype coming?

If you're a fan of chatting with Skype you've probably already tried out the Skype app on the iPhone. And while that works fine on the iPad, many of us have been left wanting a new app built specifically for the device. Which is why we're pleased to hear that it looks like we may be seeing that very soon. On the Skype blog, Peter Parkes mentioned that they're currently working on bringing the best Skype experience to the iPad in the coming months. Until then, we will all have to deal with the resized interface of the old iPhone app or use an alternative like the Truphone VoIP app.... read more.

Apple: More than 300,000 iPads First Day

Unsurprisingly, the estimate of 750,000 iPads sold out of Piper Jaffray yesterday was a bit off the mark. It turns out the Apple iPad has sold more than 300,000 units in its first day of release as well at retailers and online. Apple also announced that iPad customers downloaded over one million apps from the App Store and over 250,000 ebooks from its iBookstore during the first day. According to Apple CEO Steve Jobs, 'iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.'
While the number is less than half of the original estimate from Piper Jaffray, it's difficult to guess what to expect from a device that Apple Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs calls a new mobile-device category. Many consumers have been left in...... read more.

Analyst Estimates 700,000 iPads Sold on First Day

Despite Apple launching the iPad yesterday with only the Wi-Fi model available, it seems the device may have surpassed even the iPhone's milestone of selling roughly 270,000 in its first 30 hours. According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, the iPad may have sold somewhere around 600,000 to 700,000 units Saturday. Those numbers include pre-orders done prior to launch. Could Munster be off? It's possible. Let's analyze the numbers.
Back in June 2009, Munster guessed that Apple had sold 500,000 of the iPhone 3GS in its launch weekend and that proved to be wrong. A week later, Apple issued a press release announcing it reached one million sales over the three-day span. While he did adjust his numbers a couple days later, he was still quite a bit off the mark with only estimating...... read more.

Hulu Prepping Subscription iPad App?

If you're like us and enjoy watching your favorite TV shows free online at Hulu.com you may find this article the bearer of bad news. Hulu is reportedly prepping an iPad app to allow video playback with a subscription-based service. The only thing slowing the release of such app is the need to secure rights clearances. A path Hulu is going down following intense pressure from content providers to rake in the advertising cash for them. Could we finally be seeing the end of free Hulu with a pay-to-watch iPad app? While discussing the rumors of a subscription-based service, Jason Kilar, Hulu's chief executive, told The New York Times, 'We're certainly open to subscriptions as a complement to an ad-supported model.' This is not the first time rumors have spread claiming Hulu was considering...... read more.
